Join Action NC and Comunidad Colectiva for a community forum on issues surrounding the upcoming Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s race.
Among the topics slated for discussion:
- The 287(g) program, which allows Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to deputize selected state and local law enforcement officers to act as federal immigration officers, and the subsequent deportation of 15,000+ people from Mecklenburg County
- The ending of in-person visitation in county jails and the implementation of virtual visitations
- Solitary confinement for minors in county jails

DREAM America: Arts and Advocacy Conference on Immigration

Join Myers Park Baptist Church and Queens University of Charlotte for informative presentations and sessions highlighting the use of the arts to advocate for immigrants. The event will feature slam poetry, storytelling, film, photography and dance. And, let’s not forget live music and food trucks! A pre-conference interfaith service will also be held.
Mecklenburg County Sheriff Candidate’s Forum
Center for Peace & Social Justice, the Black Presbyterian Clergy of Charlotte, and Reentry Partners of Mecklenburg, Faith and Public Life
When: Sunday, April 22, 2-4 p.m.
Where: Johnson C. Smith University, Biddle Auditorium
Another chance to learn about the upcoming Sheriff’s election. All three candidates will attend and address hot topics like the 287(g) program and live vs. virtual inmate family visits.
