Our hearts go out to the surviving students, their families and the families of the victims of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. We are in awe of your courage in speaking truth to our elected leaders in a time of such pain and anguish. We honor your bravery in taking this fight for stricter gun control laws to your state capital. We hope our leaders will listen to your voices.
Many people have asked the Charlotte Women’s March organization, “What do you have planned in support of the student protests?” Our response is: we will SUPPORT the efforts of Charlotte area students. YOU tell us what we can do to help. Yes, we just planned a successful march on the anniversary of the Women’s March on January 20th. But this is the student’s march. We are here to march WITH YOU. We will bring our signs and raise our voices WITH YOU.
We are fully aware that the school campus demonstrations on March 14 and April 20 are for students and their families only. These are on school campuses and not open to the general public. But if the rest of us feel compelled to show up at our elected officials’ offices in support… THAT we can do.
Additionally, we are saving the date of March 24 for the public support of all students in America as they bring it to our leaders….ENOUGH! We need strong gun control laws NOW.
