TIME TO HOLD FOLKS ACCOUNTABLE FOR “THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS”
The time for accepting empty platitudes is past; follow the lead of brave Florida teenagers and demand action. Use your outrage and grief to hold our NC elected officials accountable for their past inaction and hypocrisy.
Parkland, Las Vegas, Sandy Hook, Orlando, San Bernardino, Aurora, Colo., and Sutherland Springs, Texas: use the emotions this list brings you to demand our representatives stop being owned by the NRA and take a stand FOR sensible gun control measures. Confirm this is NOT about the 2nd Amendment but IS about gun safety and gun purchasing requirements that the Supreme Court has ruled is valid.
Sen. Thom Tillis has benefitted from OVER $4 million from the NRA – he’s in the top 4 of all Senators. Call or write him to demand (1) a public press conference to explain his A+ NRA ranking, (2) a commitment to cease accepting such donations in the future, and (3) his plan to co-sponsor and/or support sensible gun control measures. Let him know your decision in his 2020 re-election will be based on his actions or lack thereof.
Rep. Robert Pittenger has not publicly offered any concrete solutions other than blaming the mental health system and society in general. He stated that no further gun restrictions are needed. State that his position on opposing any sensible gun safety measures is a key reason why you will not be supporting his 2018 campaign.
IN ADDITION, DEMAND AN END TO THE DICKEY RIDER IN THE FEDERAL BUDGET
Congress can appropriate funding for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to research gun violence and effective interventions to prevent it. The CDC is currently prohibited by law from conducting any research that could theoretically “advocate or promote gun control” thanks to a partisan budget provision passed each year since 1996 called the “Dickey Rider.”
