With elections near, voters invited to South CLT Candidate Forum Thursday Forum features Q&A with 18 candidates for Charlotte City Council and Mayor

 With Charlotte’s primary elections approaching, 13 candidates for city council and 5 candidates for mayoral posts will answer questions Thursday, Aug. 31, at the South CLT Candidate Forum, moderated by former WSOC anchor Kim Brattain.

The forum runs from 6:15 to 9:00 p.m. at the W.R. Davie Conference Center, 4635 Pineville-Matthews Road, Charlotte, N.C. 28226. Candidates will share their visions and answer questions about critical issues facing Charlotte – from development and traffic, to affordable housing, immigration and the availability of jobs and opportunities.

Those attending include Mayor Jennifer Roberts and challengers Vi Lyles, Joel Ford, Constance Partee Connie Johnson and Kimberley Paige Barnette. For city council, eight candidates for at-large and district 6 and 7 seats plan to attend. All parties—Democratic, Republican, Libertarian—are represented.

The forum is co-sponsored by the non-partisan groups, UP Charlotte and Charlotte Women’s March, which believe an informed, engaged electorate is vital to improving the community.

Discussion times are set for:

  • City council at-large, 6:15 p.m.
  • City council districts 6 & 7, 7:30 p.m.
  • Mayor, 8:10 p.m.
