Immigration Committee Updates 2-27-17

TED TALK:  To better understand some of the issues at play today in the immigration conversation, I invite you will take 16 minutes to watch the following TED Talk.  The work we are doing is very important.  How to Crowdsource a Refugee Rights Strategy by Stephen Manning.  As you listen, please understand that Charlotte and Atlanta Refugee courts have the worst records in all of the US of approving refugee asylum applications.

Description: Begin in Morgan, N.C. Palm Sunday walking with undocumented factory workers, and join the Spanish Palm Sunday Mass at St. Charles Borromeo, one of the most vibrant Catholic parishes in North Carolina. Dinner and program follows. Monday, begin day with a march in York, S.C. (near Charlotte) where ICE (Immigration Customs Enforcement) maintains a immigrant detention center & be in solidarity with Latinos who are facing deportation under Pres. Trump’s anti-immigrant policies. The rest of the day, join Charlotte Latino activists, for a march and a street theatre performance. On Tuesday, head to Greensboro for a full slate of activities in support of undocumented Latino students, with stops at Guilford College and other locations. Spend the night in Greensboro or join the ride back to Raleigh for Wednesday’s annual “Undocu-Graduation” at the general Assembly in Raleigh, to support in-state tuition for Latino kids and young adults.
